Our progress

We are measured by BIDS Scotland to chart our progress. To find our more about our BID visit our What Is a BID page.

In June 2008 a meeting was convened by Largs Initiative in Inverclyde Sports Centre chaired by Robert Crawford to discuss what required to happen to make Largs more sustainable and increase visitor numbers. One of the Initiatives mentioned was a reasonably new concept in Scotland i.e. Business Improvement Districts.During the intervening time since then and after a couple of false starts Largs Initiative carried out a survey of businesses in April/May 2010 and the results from this gave us confidence to put together a small committee of local business people which then submitted an application to BIDS Scotland for the Scottish Government Grant of £20,000, we were successful and North Ayrshire Council match funded the grant to allow us to go forward and create a Business Improvement District in Largs.

We are now at the stage where we require to strengthen the Steering Group as we have just appointed a Project Manager to carry the project forward to the ballot stage. Assuming we can convince the appropriate number of businesses to support the project then the yes ballot will be successful.

The Business Improvement District Project is your way of making the town work for the businesses and their customers and community.
